Claybaked Ornaments

Ingredients

2 cups unsifted flour
1 cup water
1 cup salt
Paints
Paint brushes
Glitter
spray glue
Baking sheets and pans
Cookie cutters
Rolling pin
Varnish or Shellac

Preparation

Step 1: Mix thoroughly all flour, salt & water in large bowl using fingers.

Step 2: Remove clay from bowl and knead by hand 4-5 minutes.

Step 3: Pinch off small ball of dough and roll to desired thickness. (Keep the rest of mixture bowl till ready for it.)

Step 4:Cut out shape with cookie cutter and place on metal sheet or pans.

Step 5: Poke ornament with large end of small paint brush to make a hole to hang it by. (Note: hole will close some in the cooking so use something larger than toothpick.)

Step 6: Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour at 325 degrees.

Step 7: Check that ornaments are done in oven by making sure they look lightly golden brown. Or poke with a toothpick... it it comes out clean they are done. If joint is soft, leave in oven longer.

Step 8:Cool ornaments.

Step 9: paint and dry

Step 10: spray on glue and Glitter. Let dry

Step 11: Spray shellac, varnish or lacquer or clear fixative to make more durable and prevent air- moisture from softening them.
